Circulation
- 177,066 items were checked out during the year. That is
the highest circulation ever!
- Young Adult circulation increased by 90%.
Collections
- The library added over 5,540 items to its collection.
- At the end of 2006, library holdings totaled over 74,500
- The library sends a monthly Hot Titles e-mail alert to 94
patrons.
- Additional DVDs were added to the collection.
Classic films and children's features have been very
popular.
Internet
and Computers
- Children's game computers were used 4,620 times during
2006.
- Internet workstations were used a total of 19,833 times.
- The library upgraded its computer server and RFID
security system during 2006.
- Our library website had 50,501 visits.
- 182 people attended computer training classes during the year.
Teen
Programs
Several programs for teens were held during 2006. One of the
most popular was the summer reading program Creature Feature @
Your Library. 72 teens signed up and 38 read at least 2,000
pages. Overall, the teens read over 183,000 pages during
the summer. |

facts
The library serves over 13,400 people in eight different
townships.
Total circulation for 2006 was 177,066 items. That is
the highest ever recorded and is 13.2
items per person in the library district.
The library subscribes to 145 magazines and 10 newspapers
The library received over $7,000 from the Friends of the
Library in 2005.
Over 500 babies (and their parents) received "Catch 'em
in the Cradle" gift packets.
In addition to library programs, over 4,900 people from area
non-profits and businesses used our meeting rooms.
20,000 reference questions were answered this year. That is
almost 1.5 question for each person in the library.
Access to 4 million items is available through
interlibrary loans. During 2006, Fremont patrons borrowed
22,073 items from other libraries. |
Writers Live
@ the Library
Eleven different authors come to the Fremont Area District Library to
tell about their work. Featured authors spoke on everything from
memoirs and poetry to the Civilian Conservation Corps and Amish
Culture. 416 people attended these popular programs. Two
nationally known novelists were featured this year: Susan
Vreeland and Myla Goldberg.
Book
Discussions
Area patrons also participated in the library's book discussions and read
titles such as Wickett's Remedy by Myla Goldberg.
Children's
Programs
Story Time captivated young children and their parents with 2,058
attending throughout the year.
Summer Reading had 539 children sign up with over half completing
the program. 1,741 children attended Discovery Tuesdays throughout
the summer.
958 children attended other programs such as craft days and
Animal Safari.
The library hosted over 870 children from area schools for class
visits and tours of the library.
Local History
Room
Interest in genealogy and local history is growing in our area.
Approximately 2,297 people visited the Local History Room in 2006.
Addition items were added to the print collection bringing the total
items to approximately 1,713.
Digitization of library owned and locally owned photos and documents
allows access while preserving the originals for future research.
Computers and Internet access is transforming genealogy and local history
research. Local history room computers were used over 269 times.
Indexes to local obituaries, births, anniversaries, marriages, and
military records are kept up-to-date and available through the library's
website.
A new family history database--Heritage Quest--was added to the
library's collection.
