Got a Match? We Now Do!
Special Thanks to our Generous Donors and the Fremont Area Community Foundation
for the Match Day!
The library received $6,182 in community contributions that
were matched by The Fremont Area Community Foundation and The Gerber
Foundation for a total of over $16,000!
Newaygo
County residents responded generously to
the Fremont Area Community Foundation’s
September 17 Match Day Challenge.
Overall 1,055
donors came to the Foundation and
contributed over $400,000 to 54 area
non-profits.
“We are
awestruck by the caring and giving
spirit of our community,” said Libby
Cherin, Foundation President. “Today was
a highlight of my two decades of
Foundation work. We heard many stories
of donors who wanted to help others and
were willing to give of their
resources.”
On
September 18, the Foundation Board met
and increased its original match from
$150,000 to match the entire amount given by the community. “Our Board
wanted to respond to Match Day’s
community generosity, and fortunately we
were able to,” said Foundation
Chairperson Danielle Merrill.
Library Director Ray
Arnett commented that “in this time of
economic hardship and struggles in our
state, the generosity of our donors was
amazing! The library truly appreciates
every gift and the sacrifice that those
gifts represent. These unexpected funds
will provide a wonderful boost to our
book budget and other areas within the
library that directly impact our
members.”
Match Day gifts to the library ranged from $1 to $1,500
from 50 different donors. The library
received its check from the Foundation
on October 16th and the
Library Board has already approved the
purchase of an additional “Early
Literacy Station” for the Children’s
department and the allocation of
additional funds to purchase books, CDs,
and DVDs this coming year. For more information on the match day, visit the
Fremont Area Community Foundation.
